In The Shadow of Longs Peak

Beaver Meadows

13 October 2022

Our destination today is Rocky Mountain National Park.  We did not have a specific goal and chose Beaver Meadows thinking it would be a bit less crowded than the Glacier Gorge or Bear Lake area.  Plus it was a place we have not been to.  At the trailhead, there are stands of aspen offset by an open meadow.   Behind us in the distance are hillocks, hills, low peaks and ridgelines.

As we hike along the trail, we pass a recent burn area and into a stand of aspen and pine, then up a hill.  At the crest we see aspen below, the panorama of Moraine Park, and the ridges of higher peaks in the distance.  Elk are bugling.
