A State Wildlife Area, located northeast of the town of Wellington, about an hour from Longmont.

I wanted to be near water, so parked at the entrance along Road 3, north of Road 64.  Here there is a pond bordered by cattails and surrounded by tawny grass.  There are a couple of cottonwoods on its north edge and a stand of pinon and juniper on north side of the parking lot.

Its 37 degrees although it feels much colder.  The wind is calm and the sky moderately overcast.

The front range is in the distance:  Longs Peak and Meeker Mountain to the south.  Moving north are the Mummies then a couple of snow covered peaks directly west, perhaps part of the Medicine Bow Range near Cameron Pass along Highway 14.
