In The Shadow of Longs Peak

Peaceful Valley

08 December 2008

The first time skiing Peaceful Valley this year.  It didn’t seem like we had much snow yet this year and I was concerned that the coverage would not be good.  I needed have worried.  There was plenty of snow.  It was clear in Lyons, and the road was good coming up the South St Vrain canyon but it was snowing slightly once we reached the Raymond turnoff.  Once we turned onto hwy 72, the road was snow covered and there were places of poor visibility due to blowing snow.  But it’s really not too bad.  The first gate is closed so we park just off hwy 72.  It’s 9:15 or so, but we are the fourth party.  We head up, taking the road which is well covered and continue to Camp Dick and beyond.  But today, we only go a mile or so do to time constraints.

We turn around just past our winter camping adventure of last year.  The snow fall is not heavy but certain constant.  Windy in a few spots but not many.  A lovely day!
