In The Shadow of Longs Peak

Lory State Park

Gary is on the mend so we tramp around Lory State Park and Horsetooth Reservoir

26 March 2017

I decided to head up to Lory State Park for a hike.  The park is pretty busy and the reservoir is quite full.  If I were paddling, putting in an Etuck would be quite doable.

I parked just above the Soldiers Canyon Group Picnic area and walked uphill to the Timber Trail.  But my knee became quite achy, just in that short distance.  Before leaving, I hiked up to the waterfall at Soldiers Canyon which is in a nice setting with rock outcroppings.  I should come back with a sketch pad.

Then I retraced my steps and hiked the East Valley Trail.  This reminds me of the Picture Rock Trail:  generally level with lots of curves as it follows the contour and very scenic with the lake just below.

About 2 miles in, it starts to rain.  I retrace my steps.

A lovely hike

Another stroll, this time up the hill on the west side of the road.  I need to come back and do a long hike here.
